Dois esqueletos foram encontrados nas ruínas de Pompéia, a antiga cidade romana destruída por uma erupção do vulcão Vesúvio há quase 2.000 anos, informou o Ministério da Cultura da Itália nesta terça-feira (16).
Os esqueletos foram recuperados de um prédio conhecido como “Casa dos Pintores no Trabalho” e provavelmente são de dois homens na faixa dos 50 anos que morreram em um terremoto que acompanhou a erupção, disse um comunicado do ministério.
O diretor do Parque Arqueológico de Pompéia, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, disse que eles foram mortos não por cinzas vulcânicas, mas por edifícios em colapso, observando que fragmentos de paredes foram encontrados entre seus ossos fraturados.
Pompéia, 23 km a sudeste de Nápoles, abrigava cerca de 13.000 pessoas quando foi enterrada sob cinzas, pedras-pomes e poeira, enquanto suportou a força de uma erupção no ano 79 dC equivalente a muitas bombas atômicas.
O Ministério da Cultura disse que “pelo menos 15-20% da população” foi morta. Nos últimos dois séculos e meio, os arqueólogos recuperaram os restos mortais de mais de 1.300 vítimas.

O ministro da Cultura italiano, Gennaro Sangiuliano, disse que os esforços de conservação e pesquisa arqueológica continuarão.
