Acidente ocorreu no estado da Carolina do Norte, no aeroporto regional de Statesville
Um avião particular do piloto da Nascar Gregg Biffle caiu nesta quinta-feira (18) durante o pouso na Carolina do Norte, nos Estados Unidos, e várias pessoas morreram, segundo a polícia. O incidente também gerou um incêndio de grandes proporções.
Biffle participava de provas da Nascar, a Stock Car americana. Ainda não se sabe se ele estava a bordo da aeronave. O aeroporto informa em seu site que oferece instalações de aviação corporativa para empresas da Fortune 500 e para várias equipes da categoria, que tem um de seus principais autódromos na região.
Greg Biffle, de 55 anos, é um piloto veterano da Nascar, a Stock Car americana. Ele foi campeão em 2002 da Busch Series, espécie de acesso à categoria principal. Nesta, atualmente conhecida como Nascar Cup, ele soma 19 vitórias em sua carreira regular, entre 2003 e 2016. Desde então, ele realiza apenas participações ocasionais.
“Podemos confirmar que houve um incidente envolvendo uma aeronave no Aeroporto Regional de Statesville. Uma aeronave caiu durante o pouso”, afirmou o aeroporto, localizado a cerca de 70 km de Charlotte, em suas redes sociais.
O chefe de polícia do condado de Iredell, Grant Campbell, local afirmou que há “várias mortes”, porém se recusou a dizer quantas. Segundo o aeroporto, o incidente ocorreu por volta das 12h15 no horário de Brasília (10h15 no horário local). Ainda não se sabe, até a última atualização desta reportagem, quantas pessoas estavam a bordo.

A Administração Federal de Aviação (FAA) informou que o avião é do modelo Cessna C550 e disse que o Conselho Nacional de Segurança nos Transportes (NTSB) e a FAA estão investigando o caso. Agentes da FAA estão a caminho do local.
