Mike Jeffries e Matthew Smith alegam que graves acusações são por crimes que já prescreveram
A empresa gigante de comércio de roupas no varejo, norte-americana Abercrombie & Fitch, e o ex-diretor Mike Jeffries e seu parceiro Matthew Smith, pediram à Justiça norte-americana para arquivar uma ação judicial por tráfico sexual.
Jeffries diz que as denúncias já estão fora do prazo de prescrição e não têm “mérito”. A Abercrombie & Fitch argumenta que a ação legal falhou em demonstrar que a mesma tinha conhecimento da alegada exploração e, por isso, não pode ser considerada responsável.
A ação, iniciada em outubro do último ano, alegou que a empresa havia financiado uma “organização criminosa” liderada por Mr. Jeffries durante mais de duas décadas. As acusações incluem que a Abercrombie & Fitch permitiu ao antigo CEO “acesso irrestrito” a recursos corporativos, incluindo um jato, transporte e quantias ilimitadas de dinheiro, para facilitar uma “operação de tráfico sexual”.
A queixa legal, apresentada pelo ex-modelo David Bradberry e outros no Distrito Sul de Nova York, acusa Mr. Jeffries e seu parceiro britânico Mr. Smith de tráfico sexual, má conduta sexual e estupro.
Negação das acusações
Em resposta à alegação legal, os documentos apresentados pelos advogados de Mr. Jeffries declaram que ele “nega veementemente todas as denúncias contra ele”. A Abercrombie & Fitch condena qualquer tipo de abuso sexual e rejeita veementemente as supostas condutas de Jeffries e de outros, descritas na queixa. No entanto, nada na queixa sugere plausivelmente que a empresa estava ciente ou participou da suposta exploração do requerente, ou que a Abercrombie & Fitch possa ser considerada responsável por isso agora.”, acrescenta a empresa.
