O sul da Turquia e o norte da Síria sofreram forte terremoto com magnitude de 7,8 graus na manhã desta segunda-feira (6), além de outros tremores secundários. Após os abalos sísmicos, o número de mortos chega a mais de 2.600, segundo informações da rede de comunicações Al Jazeera.

Dados oficiais da Turquia dizem que 1.541 pessoas morreram no país, 9.733 ficaram feridas e 3.471 prédios desabaram. O vice-presidente turco, Fuat Oktay, afirmou que pelo menos 284 pessoas morreram e mais de 2.323 ficaram feridas em 10 províncias no país. Disse ainda que cerca de 900 edifícios acabaram destruídos em Gaziantep e Kahramanmaras. Um hospital desabou em Iskanderoun, que fica às margens do Mediterrâneo.

“Infelizmente, ao mesmo tempo, também estamos enfrentando condições climáticas extremamente severas”, apontou Oktay. A Turquia passa por uma situação de nevascas e fortes tempestades.

Houve pelo menos seis tremores secundários. O governo pede que as pessoas não entrem nos prédios danificados. “Nossa prioridade é resgatar as pessoas presas sob prédios em ruínas e transferi-las para hospitais”, disse o ministro do Interior, Süleyman Soylu.

Na Síria, especificamente, são 245 mortos em áreas controladas pelo governo e 147 nos locais com controle de rebeldes.
