Na sexta o bombardeio do Exército israelense matou o segundo principal líder do grupo; ofensiva feriu mais de 40 pessoas, e uma criança morreu na explosão dos mais de 100 mísseis lançados pelo Jihad.
Na sexta-feira, uma operação israelense contra o grupo militante Jihad Islâmica pôs fim a mais de um ano de relativa calma entre os dois. Israel matou um dos líderes do grupo em um ataque aéreo surpresa durante o dia, e os palestinos responderam com disparos de foguetes.
Neste sábado, Israel disse que atingiu militantes da Jihad Islâmica que se preparavam para lançar foguetes. Outros bombardeios atingiram três casas, disseram testemunhas.

Se o Hamas, o grupo militante islâmico que controla Gaza, atacar Israel, o conflito vai tomar proporções muito maiores.
Os ataques israelenses mataram 12 palestinos. Além do líder da Jihad Islâmica, outros quatro militantes do grupo foram mortos. Entre as vítimas fatais também há uma criança. O número de feridos é pelo menos 84, de acordo com o Ministério de Saúde dos palestinos.
A Jihad Islâmica não deu detalhes precisos sobre quantos de seus membros foram mortos e não sinalizou nenhum cessar-fogo imediato. Um membro do grupo afirmou aos jornalistas que, para eles, a hora é de resistência, não de trégua.
