Dono do Instagram e Facebook afirmou em entrevista ao podcast The Joe Rogan Experience que caso ocorreu no início da pandemia de Covid-19
O dono da Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, afirmou na sexta-feira (10) que funcionários do governo Biden pressionavam a equipe do Facebook para remover conteúdo que eles achavam ser desinformação na rede social.
“Basicamente, essas pessoas do governo Biden ligavam para nossa equipe e gritavam com eles e xingavam, e era como se isso estivesse documentado, estivesse tudo meio que disponível”, afirmou Zuckerberg.
Segundo Zuckerberg, o governo tentou fazer com que a Meta removesse um meme que sugeria que pessoas que tomassem a vacina contra a Covid-19 acabariam fazendo parte de ações judiciais coletivas.
No início desta semana, a Meta anunciou que estava encerrando seus programas de verificação de fatos de terceiros nos Estados Unidos e mudando suas políticas de conduta odiosa, adicionando novos tipos de conteúdo que os usuários agora podem postar em plataformas de propriedade da Meta que eram proibidas anteriormente
“Fomos testados sob pressão sobre esse assunto nos últimos 8 a 10 anos, com essas grandes instituições nos pressionando, e sinto que este é o lugar certo para seguir em frente”, ele disse durante o podcast.
Zuckerberg também afirmou na entrevista com Joe Rogan que estava trabalhando nas mudanças anunciadas esta semana “há muito tempo”.
“O objetivo da mídia social é dar às pessoas a capacidade de compartilhar o que elas querem. Isso remonta à nossa missão original, que é apenas dar às pessoas o poder de compartilhar e tornar o mundo mais aberto e conectado”, disse Zuckerberg.
O CEO afirmou que está em uma “jornada” na última década, começando “muito a favor da liberdade de expressão”, mas a vitória do presidente Donald Trump em 2016 e a pressão do governo Biden para moderar a desinformação sobre a Covid-19 nas redes sociais mudaram sua visão.
“Eu meio que acho que em 2016 e depois disso eu dei muita deferência a muitas pessoas na mídia que estavam basicamente dizendo ‘Ok, não havia como (Trump) ter sido eleito exceto por desinformação. As pessoas não conseguem realmente acreditar nessas coisas’”, disse Zuckerberg.
Ele afirmou que a verificação de fatos e a moderação de conteúdo chegaram a um ponto em que “destruíram a confiança” na plataforma.
