A sanção atinge as petrolíferas russas Lukoil e Rosneft, à medida que cresce a frustração de Trump com o presidente russo, Vladimir Putin, em relação ao conflito.
Também nesta quarta-feira, países da União Europeia (UE) aprovaram o 19º pacote de sanções contra Moscou por sua guerra contra a Ucrânia, incluindo a proibição de importações de gás natural liquefeito da Rússia.
As novas sanções de Trump vieram após o Reino Unido também ter sancionado, na semana passada, as petrolíferas Lukoil e Rosneft.
O Departamento do Tesouro dos EUA afirmou estar preparado para tomar ações adicionais e pediu que Moscou concorde imediatamente com um cessar-fogo na guerra contra a Ucrânia, iniciada em fevereiro de 2022.
“Diante da recusa do presidente Putin em encerrar essa guerra sem sentido, o Tesouro está sancionando as duas maiores empresas de petróleo da Rússia, que financiam a máquina de guerra do Kremlin”, disse o secretário do Tesouro, Scott Bessent, em comunicado. “Incentivamos nossos aliados a se unir a nós e a aderir a essas sanções.”
