O presidente dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, disse nesta quinta-feira (23) que deve realizar ações militares em terra contra cartéis. Segundo o presidente, o assunto deve ser discutido com o Congresso. Donald Trump não citou diretamente a Venezuela.
O anúncio foi feito um dia após o bombardeio de uma embarcação no Oceano Pacífico, o nono ataque do tipo ocorrido na América do Sul. Segundo o Departamento de Guerra, o barco transportava drogas. Três pessoas morreram.
Trump afirmou em coletiva de imprensa que não precisará pedir ao Congresso uma declaração de guerra aos cartéis e reiterou que as operações irão continuar.
“Bem, não acho que vamos necessariamente pedir uma declaração de guerra. Acho que vamos apenas matar as pessoas que estão trazendo drogas para o nosso país. Certo? Vamos matá-las.”
Essa não foi a primeira vez que Trump falou sobre possíveis ataques terrestres contra cartéis. Na semana passada, o presidente disse que estava estudando essa possibilidade.
Segundo a imprensa americana, autoridades da Casa Branca afirmam que o governo está montando uma ação que teria como objetivo final derrubar o governo Maduro, na Venezuela.
Ao lado de Trump, o secretário de Guerra, Pete Hegseth, afirmou que os militares americanos irão caçar e matar todos os “terroristas” que traficam drogas para os Estados Unidos.
“Estas são organizações terroristas estrangeiras designadas. São o Estado Islâmico e a Al-Qaeda do Hemisfério Ocidental. Nossa mensagem para essas organizações terroristas estrangeiras é: trataremos vocês como tratamos a Al-Qaeda.”
Trump negou que os Estados Unidos tenham enviados bombardeiros para a costa da Venezuela, na coletiva de imprensa. Mais cedo, o jornal “The Wall Street Journal” reportou que aeronaves supersônicas realizarem uma “demonstração de ataque” perto da costa sul-americana.
