O lutador brasileiro de MMA Godofredo Castro de Oliveira, conhecido como Godofredo Pepey, foi encontrado morto no domingo, 9 de novembro de 2025, em uma unidade prisional na Flórida, Estados Unidos, onde estava detido desde 30 de junho deste ano.
Pepey estava preso após ser acusado de agressão contra sua esposa Samara Mello, incluindo violência doméstica, sequestro com lesão corporal, estrangulamento e intimidação da vítima. As autoridades americanas comunicaram o óbito à família, mas as circunstâncias exatas da morte não foram divulgadas até o momento. O advogado da esposa pediu respeito à família e pediu que não haja especulações enquanto os trâmites legais seguem em curso.
A prisão e acusações criminais
Godofredo Pepey foi preso na cidade de Deerfield Beach, sul da Flórida, após denúncia de vizinhos em razão de violência doméstica contra Samara Mello, com quem residia nos Estados Unidos. Segundo relatos, Pepey teria agredido a esposa causando hematomas e destruído partes da residência, além de impedi-la de pedir ajuda. Carreira esportiva
Godofredo Pepey, natural de Fortaleza, Ceará, tinha 38 anos ao falecer e era conhecido por sua carreira no MMA internacionalmente, com passagens pelo UFC e outras competições, além de ter sido vice-campeão no reality show The Ultimate Fighter Brasil na edição inicial. Ele acumulava 21 lutas profissionais, com 13 vitórias, 8 por finalização, e era faixa preta em jiu-jitsu e muay thai. Pepey também era pai de dois filhos de um casamento anterior e chegou a se candidatar a vereador em Fortaleza em 2024, mas não foi eleito.
