O MPF denunciou nesta terça-feira (26) o presidente da Funai, Marcelo Xavier, por imputar a servidores da Fundação Nacional do Índio e da Associação Waimiri Atroari supostos crimes de tráfico de influência e de prevaricação, mesmo sabendo que eram inocentes.
Na denúncia, a procuradoria afirmou que Xavier utilizou a notificação para abertura de inquérito como instrumento de “pressão política” contra os funcionários que atuavam no processo de licenciamento ambiental do Linhão de Tucuruí, que liga Manaus (AM) a Boa Vista (RR).
O Ministério Público disse que as condutas apresentadas pelos servidores são compatíveis com quem atua na defesa de direitos indígenas e solicitou que o presidente da Funai seja afastado do cargo.
Na ação penal, o MPF também pediu que Marcelo Xavier seja condenado a pagar R$ 100 mil reais de indenização por danos morais causados às vítimas.
Na semana passada, o chefe da política indigenista do Brasil foi expulso de uma reunião da ONU, em Madri, após discutir com um ex-servidor da instituição que o chamou de “miliciano”
